A tomar las artes
DIA INTERNACIONAL DE LA MUJER 2021

Take Up Arts
International Women's Day 2021

Celebrando a las artistas de nuestra comunidad

Celebración Virtual
Mar 6, 2021

Celebrating the women artist of our community

Virtual Celebration
Mar 6, 2021

Visual Arts, Theatre, Dance, Poetry, Music, Video.

For the past eight years, Casa Maíz Cultural Centre has celebrated International Women’s Day to honour the struggles, achievements, and invaluable contributions that the women of our communities have made to the arts and culture. This commemoration reminds us that, historically, as women we have had to reclaim spaces denied us, such as those that allow for the creation and performance of the arts. With Take Up Arts, Casa Maíz organizes an event where Latin-Canadian women take over the stage, asserting our histories and corporal memories through art, staging our resistances, and showcasing our diverse identities and global influence.

Land Acknowledgement

We wish to acknowledge this land on which Casa Maíz operates. For thousands of years it has been the land of many Nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples. Today this meeting place is still home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island. This territory is protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampun Belt Covenant, which requires that those who inhabit the land share it peaceably and care for it.
