The Music Section of the Faculty of Arts would like to invite Faculty, staff, students & community members to participate in the
Ryerson Music Series: Interdisciplinary PerspectivesLatin American Drumming, Singing & Dance Workshop“Musica de Gaita: A Tri-Cultural Heritage”
RUBEN ESGUERRA, M.A. Columbian-born Ruben Esguerra is an internationally-performing multi-instrumentalist, songwriter & educator, who presents regular Arts workshops to inner-city schools with the Ontario Arts Council’s “Artist in Education Program” & leads numerous Latin American bands. The workshop will explore the history & music of the South American música de gaita ensemble. Rooted in the sixteenth century, the music embodies a confluence of African, European & Amerindian musical traditions. Some drums will be provided for audience participation— Please feel free to bring your own as well! Whether Latin music lover, dancer, inspired listener, or simply curious, we hope that you will join us!
